An Iodine deficiency is called a Goitre Neck. Thyroid hormones control our energy levels.

Deficiency Symptoms

Deficiency causes goitre (or swollen neck) and hypothyroidism. The symptoms of which are chronic fatigue, apathy and dry skin.

Iodine is an integral part of the thyroid hormone. May also convert beta-carotene to vitamin A.
RDA 150 microgrammes. Supplements should only be taken under supervision.
Too much Iodine causes skin eruptions or aggravations of acne. Large doses may disrupt the hormone levels.
Iodine has been shown to reduce pain in certain conditions, and involved in nerve and muscle function. It also plays a role in physical and mental development.
Iodine is in high concentrations in seaweed, white fish. Table salt is frequently supplemented with Iodine. Higher intakes are recommended during pregnancy.
